Peace Studies as Vocation

WWYD? What Will You Do?

by Dean J. Johnson

What Will You Do?

In a world that all too often uses violence to resolve conflict, Jesus left us with these words. "Blessed are the peacemakers..." Matthew 5:9. What do these words mean for Christian living? What do these words mean for Christian vocation? If Christians take seriously Jesus as a model for how they live their life, then what types of jobs and careers are appropriate? We are now a part of a global community where what we do in our daily lives impacts others around the world. What one decides to do for a living can have implications for the entire global society. So, what will you do? more

"THERE’S A CALL FOR YOU!"

by Ralph E. Glenn

There’s a call for you. . ." is a phrase I hear quite often in my office, and I am sure it is the same for you. At your office, at your home–you have someone trying to reach you. As Christians, active in the church (which is true of most of you reading this) there is a continuing call from God, for you.

As we strive to give God first place in our lives, we become aware of self-interest and of the conflict between God’s way and our desires. Only through listening again and again to scripture, immersing ourselves in prayer, and trusting in God’s inexhaustible mercy may we consent to the ever-deepening relationship into which God calls us.

Be listening for the call–to be a better steward of your life and God-given gifts; to possibly consider the ministry of the church as a career; . . . to take the step you have been putting off, and enroll in a (specialized) ministry program in your area; to step forward and accept the leadership role in your church where you know you can make a positive difference; to live the life you know God wants you to live; to pray today that God will use you in ways to make God’s love real to others; and remember. . .

. . . . . All life is a call and a response. God calls us into life. How we live is our response to God. "There is a call for each of us." God calls us to this day. God calls each of us to move among the creations of this world and bring joy and renewing love. God calls us this day. Answer the call!
