As a teenager I was high maintenance, but as the years went by I still
had all the makeup and products but I seemed to have less time and
inclination to use them. The same thing has happened with the time I
spend with God. I have my bible, study books and my favorite quiet place
and yet I always seem too busy to put them to use.
In OASIS we are reminded of the importance of taking care of ourselves,
not only physically, but also spiritually.
The author does a wonderful job of taking fifteen subjects (ex.-the face,
fragrance, the body) and not only explaining the physical aspects, conditions and
results of taking care of ourselves but also the spiritual side of each
of these subjects.
Each chapter is sprinkled with scripture that supports the topic. There
are many shared beauty secrets and rituals throughout the book.
Mrs. Everson also displays a good deal of humor in her writing. It
reminded me that, even with a subject that explains the seriousness of
taking care of ourselves( both physically and spiritually), one of our
best beauty assets is the ability to smile and laugh.
Even though I read this book on my own, I think it would be a great book
for a women's small group. The questions at the end of each chapter could
lead to a lively and reflective discussion.
I would recommend to women of all ages. It reminds us that, even with all
our worldly products that keep our outward appearance beautiful, our true
beauty comes from within and is given to us by the One who sacrificed
everything for us. It reminds us that we should spend at least as much
time with Him as we do taking care of our physical appearance.
