Recognizing the unique needs of caregivers, LifeWay Ridgecrest
Conference Center will host SomeOne Cares, a conference for caregivers,
church staff, lay leaders and others Oct. 25-28, 2007.
Author/Speaker Carmen Leal founded SomeOne Cares because
she knows firsthand the needs of caregivers. She was her husband's
caregiver through the journey of Huntington’s disease for twelve years.
When asked about the primary goal for the conference she said,
"Ultimately, the most important goal of this conference is to help both
churches and caregivers focus on the One who cares for them as they care
for those they love."
Cec Murphey (author of over 100 books, including coauthor of
90 Minutes In Heaven, #3 on the New York Times Bestseller list) will
be one of the featured speakers. Other caregiving specialists, many of
whom have written books on the subject, will provide keynotes and
workshops at the conference. Workshops designed to help set up caregiver
ministries with be held Oct. 25-26, and workshops geared specifically to
caregivers will be held Oct. 26-28.
Music for the Soul, a Christian ministry committed to providing
life-changing healing through music and song, will lead worship. Worship
Leader Steve Siler won the Dove Award for Inspirational Song of the Year
in 2000 for I Will Follow Christ. His most well known songs are
Circle of Friends (Point of Grace) and Not Too Far from Here.
Singer, songwriter and pianist Scott Krippayne, will perform a special
concert on Friday night, Oct. 26. Free tickets will be available at
LifeWay Bookstores, and on the SomeOne Cares Web site. Scott is most
recently known for winning the 2007 American Idol song contest this past
season with his song This is My Now. He’s also known for writing
Sometimes He Calms the Storm.
The conference (an opportunity for respite while participants gain
better caregiver skills) is packed with daily praise and worship, general
sessions featuring passionate talks,
multimedia presentations, drama, music and sculpting, over 40 concurrent
workshops, resource tables, and mealtime roundtable discussions. To learn
